When you don’t have a job that makes your heart sing

Your job provides you with a sense of identity, a sense of worth. So when you don’t have a job, or have a job you hate you can feel worthless, useless or even depressed.

I had my first job at 13 years old – I delivered newspapers and babysat. By the age of 20 I had worked in a bookshop, a newsagent, Argos (a big chain store in the UK), stuffed envelopes, stuffed sandwiches, done cold calling, worked as a barmaid, as a cleaner and in a call centre. Those were my student and part-time jobs to keep me going through university.

Once I started my career my CV became even more patchwork; I am now 40 years old and I have been a secretary, an English teacher, a French teacher, a PA, a PR manager, a business owner in the travel industry, an Account Director in a Digital Marketing Agency and a childminder. I still wear many hats now as I work as a writer, blogger, author, teacher and online trainer and educator.

And one thing I’ve learnt over the course of my many varied jobs is that the best way to be happy in life is to do a job that makes your heart sing.

I’ve just recorded a Facebook Live video on this subject which you can view here:

If you would like to know more about my journey, the jobs I’ve had (including some of the crazy situations I’ve found myself in) grab my free video guide to decision-making and facing your fears.

Don’t hesitate to comment below or to message me if you have any questions or have any issues surrounding this subject, I’d love to help out if I can.

Finally this video might well help others who are feeling worthless because of a job (or lack of it) so do think to share it 🙂

Love,

Sophie x

This is an inspiring video. My only problem is that I feel like I am in a great blur and cannot even think about what I would like to do (hated my studies, my current job)… I feel like if you have a clear idea of where you want to be it can give you the energy to make those important decisions to take control of your life. However when you hate your job but can’t think of any other alternatives it becomes paralysing. So I’m not sure what the next step should be… I need to go back to my job after my maternity leave and it makes me cry and almost physically sick 🙁

Oh Ana, this makes me so sad for you reading this. I’d love to be able to help you. This is a big part of what I cover in my “Get the Life YOU Love” programme (http://www.franglaisemummy.com/get-the-life-you-love/) but as I’ve not opened registration for that yet I will email you with some things that you can do now to move forwards, and to move towards doing what makes your heart sing. Sending much love and big hugs, Sophie xx
