How to look good post children

I am now 38, I have had 2 pregnancies (the last one age 36) and I really feel that you can tell this when you look at my body. Everything feels a bit floppy, saggy, droopy. Pert is a long-gone word, and all of this does get me down.

Whilst I couldn’t be happier about being able to have two pregnancies, to bring my two daughters into this world and to breastfeed them, it does make me sad to think back to my teen and 20-something pre-pregnancy body.… Read more

Moving back to the South of France Part 2

Yesterday I blogged about how much I loved the south of France and how I never imagined I would ever leave the French Riviera, which you can read here. Today I’m going to explain why Hubs and I made that incredibly hard decision to leave.

For a very long time the sunshine, warmth, beaches and mountains made up for so many negatives, but in the end the downside of France and the French Riviera got the better of us and we headed back to the grey, cold, rainy UK.… Read more

Moving back to the South of France Part 1

We moved to London from Nice nearly 4 years ago, and since then people have asked me, with incredulity, why on earth we moved from the sun and warmth of the French Riviera to the rain and cold of the UK.

What is friendship now?

Friendship is a funny old thing, especially how it changes over the years. When you’re younger and at school you see your friends all day, every day, and they are so much more important than anyone else in your life. You can’t even imagine a time when those people won’t be your whole world.… Read more

Is Thorpe Park any good for younger kids?

I have such amazing memories of Thorpe Park as a teenager, and I have no doubt about how incredible a place it is for secondary school age kids, but since we got our Merlin Annual Pass a couple of years ago, I’ve been wondering whether it is any good for younger children.… Read more

Why Game of Thrones is good for my 7 year old daughter

Now before you go getting all judgemental on me, I don’t mean I’m going to sit down and watch explicit violence and sex scenes in brothels with my 7 year old, so let me explain.

In general women in films and TV tend to be depicted as the poor, little weakling, who need the men to save/rescue/validate them.… Read more

The hunt for a decent hairdresser

If you’ve seen any photos of me you’ll know that I’ve got curly hair. When I was a child I had thick, dark, wiry, dry, curly hair. My mum didn’t have a clue what to do with it (having straight/wavy hair herself) so she used to take me to a local “at home” hairdresser who would cut it short, and then my mum would brush it for me every day.… Read more

Top tips on raising your child bilingually

Quite a few readers have asked me how we manage to raise our two daughters bilingually, so I thought it was time I shared what has worked for us, raising our two daughters with two languages.

Before I start here’s a bit of background about us:

Mum
I’m English. I have a degree in French (and Spanish).… Read more

Speechless for the first time in my life

About 6 months ago I managed to persuade Hubs to set up a food blog with me. You see I couldn’t do it on my own as he is the cook in the family, so whilst I could have fun writing blog posts, and doing the whole social media bit, I needed him to do the actual recipe and cooking bit.… Read more

The secret to decorating rental accommodation for kids

Since we relocated to London in 2010 we have been living in rental property, which we have mostly loved, having been home-owners in France – it’s so liberating contacting the landlord when something breaks rather than having to pay to get it fixed/fixing it yourself đŸ™‚

However there is one thing that I really miss, and that is having the freedom to put my own stamp on the place.… Read more
