Happy New Year one and all! Here’s hoping you all had a good festive season and made it into the start of 2014 in one piece. Before I go any further I would like to say a massive thank you to those who read my blog, who share it and who comment on it; 2013 was a fantastic year for Franglaise Mummy with the blog going from strength to strength thanks to you lot, so merci beaucoup, thank you very much
I don’t know about you but I don’t really “do” resolutions, as they tend to be destined to fail, instead I like to take stock and make plans for the future with clear goals and objectives, and this blog post is about Franglaise Family’s plans, goals and objectives for 2014.
My goal for Franglaise Mummy is to blog more often with good quality posts, hopefully improving my writing along the way….although no guarantees there for when I’m frazzled after a day looking after 4 small children! I’ve really enjoyed developing my writing style and the subjects of my blog posts this year; in 2014 expect to see more about life in the UK/London, general French/UK comparisons and my take on how we parent in comparison to what is “normal” in the UK/France. Of course I always like to know if there are certain styles of posts that you like more than others so do let me know.
In the same writing/creative vein I have started writing some bilingual children’s books which I hope to be able to share online in the next few months. They will be grouped together under the heading “The adventures of Elodie” (Les aventures d’Elodie in French), and are about a curly-haired tomboy called Elodie who is half French and half English and lives in London (note where I drew my inspiration from there? They say to write about what you know though….). Each story is about the imaginary adventures that Elodie and her friends go on, using the local park as their backdrop. The books are aimed at younger children and are in English with a French translation on the same page so can be enjoyed by English and French children alike, hopefully there will be audio books to go alongside them to help parents who don’t want to dig out rusty French GCSE! It’s a massive, daunting, but exciting project and I’m lucky enough to have my talented brother working alongside me on the illustration side of things. For more info watch this space, but also don’t hesitate to shout out if you’ve got any suggestions, you can leave a comment below or get in touch through my contacts page.
2014 is set to be the year of writing and of the blog in the Franglaise house as Hubs has given up the day job and is now working full-time on his French blog – www.BourseEnsemble.com – which means “stock market together”. He is currently compiling an online training course for French-speakers who are looking to invest in the stock market but don’t know where to start, which will be on sale in the next few months.
To make sure we test our relationship as much as possible, Hubs and I are going to be working together again (we ran a luxury travel agency together when L was a baby and we were living on the French Riviera), but it’s a little less full-on this time as we are about to launch a blog together – www.FranglaiseCooking.com. Hubs is passionate about cooking and it has always been a back-burner job idea as he’s been cooking since he was little, so our new blog will be a showcase of French and English dishes, aimed at busy parents who are trying to get their kids to eat/rustle up something after a hectic day/cook healthily/cook cheaply. Don’t expect gourmet haute cuisine as this is all about everyday food for all the family and each recipe will be broken down into ability levels, costs, time and healthiness as these are the factors that interest us the most when we’re cooking for our family. Again let me know if you’ve got any suggestions (or want to be contacted once it’s live).
So 2014 is all about changes for us with these new projects and I cannot wait – I think it’s going to be a good ‘un! I hope that the new year brings you everything you want and I look forward to hearing your thoughts/suggestions/comments on what we’ve got planned for 2014.
