Lest we forget

Yesterday evening I took L to see the poppies at the Tower of London. It was a tough call as we couldn’t go until after I finished work at 6pm, making it a long day and a late one for her. But I just felt that it was something I had to do with her.… Read more

Top tips to get a good night’s sleep

I’ve found that as I get older, and since I’ve had kids, I relish a good night’s sleep more and more. If I watch TV in the evening and see someone all cosy in bed, all I can think is “ooh, doesn’t that look lovely?”

So how do you go from wanting a good night’s sleep to actually getting it?… Read more

SAHM vs Working Mum: Who wins?

Us mums seem to constantly be fighting the never-ending battle over who parents best – Stay At Home Mums (SAHMs) or Working Mums? Then of course there are the WAHMs (Work At Home Mums) to throw into the mix too.

For some reason we’re either putting ourselves on a massive guilt-trip about which path we’ve chosen, or we’re criticising the mums who do it differently.… Read more

How I felt when I left France

I left France in July 2010, after living there for 12 years and saying I would never leave. Recently several people have asked me if I miss France, if it was a hard decision to leave or how I felt when I left, so I thought I’d share a little more about that part of our life today.… Read more

The true facts about breastfeeding l www.FranglaiseMummy.com l French and English Parenting and Lifestyle Ramblings

Breastfeeding: What they don’t tell you

Breastfeeding is such a controversial topic. You will only just have announced your pregnancy and everyone will already be interested in whether you’re going breast or bottle. Never has it been so acceptable to be this interested in a woman’s mammary glands!

I know many women (in the UK) who were given the impression that breastfeeding should be such a natural, automatic, easy act that they felt such a failure when it didn’t work for them.… Read more

Raising feisty females

I’m a feisty female. Born of a feisty female. Who in turn was born of a feisty female. But we live in a day and age where feminism has become a dirty word, and many feminists deny being one. Girls are called bossy and it’s seen as being bad. Being ambitious has negative connotations and we talk about “having balls” as being a good, but men-only, thing.… Read more

What’s your beauty legacy?

As a mum to a nearly 8 year old daughter (and a nearly 2 year old daughter) I’m very conscious that my words and actions are absorbed and remembered, so I try to be very careful when it comes to self-esteem, self-confidence, body and beauty matters.

About 18 months ago, my (then 6 year old) daughter came out with “you have to be skinny to be pretty” which really scared me, as we don’t talk about weight or dieting at home, so this has come from peers and the media.… Read more

When did we lose the dream?

When we were children we told our parents and teachers that when we grew up we wanted to be astronauts, pilots, deep sea divers and more. The world really was our oyster.

The only baby book you need

I was delighted to recently receive the wonderful news that someone close to me is pregnant with her first baby (you know who you are, E), which inspired me to finally write a review of Dr Ellie Cannon’s book for new mums that I received and read (in 48 hours) a few months ago.… Read more
