We went to our first blogging conference!

I think I can safely say that C and I stood out like a sore thumb as I wheeled her in her pushchair through the city on Friday lunchtime to attend our first blogging conference, the one and only BritMums Live. As we emerged from Moorgate tube station into a sea of suits and rushing finance workers I caught a glimpse of our reflection in a shop window: me in a flowery, summer’s dress with fancy flip flops, pushing 7 month old C in our lovely Britax B-Smart pushchair. Yep, we didn’t really fit in there. But 5 minutes’ walk away and I was surrounded by the loveliness of BrtiMums Live and we fit in perfectly.

It was my first blogging conference and I didn’t really know what to expect but I was bowled away by the amazing atmosphere, the mutual support that oozed around the building, and the energy. You would think that putting 500 women (there were a few men there too, but they were far outnumbered) in a room together would just mean bitchiness and snide comments, but the truth was that it was quite the opposite.

I can’t begin to say how many tears were shed or how many hugs given and received, or how much laughter was shared, but I can say that the atmosphere for me was one of love, support and friendship.

I met some incredible people there, all of them for the first time, although many of them I know from chatting online many times over the past few months.

I was delighted to meet up with @WritingForFun who blogs over at Munchies and Munchkins, who became my BritMums Live buddy for the two days. She is the loveliest, most gorgeous lady, whose Welsh accent is like gentle music to your ears, she also has a mighty fine blog that I encourage you to go and visit. C took a total liking to her and her necklace.

We also met @HonestMummy who blogs over at Honest Mum, which I follow avidly and can’t recommend highly enough. It was lovely to meet her as we got close on Twitter last year when we were pregnant together, especially when I went through an OC scare towards the end of my pregnancy (something she has experienced and knows a lot about). C took to Honest Mum too, who in turn couldn’t get enough of the baby cuddles to make up for her babies being at home:

The awards ceremony was incredibly moving and ended the first day on such a high, but C and I were both flaking so we headed on home on the tube as soon as it was over – this time we stuck out as there weren’t any other pushchairs around at 9pm on a Friday night! You’ve got to love London though, as I got off at my station a young lady in a very inebriated state asked me if I wanted a hand with the pushchair. She was being held up by her two friends as was too drunk to stand. It’s the thought that counts though!

Day two saw C being left at home with Hubs and L while I hotfooted it back to the city. If possible this day packed even more of a punch than the previous one, I attended some amazing sessions, listened to some inspiring and motivational speakers and came away totally energised. I’m going to leave the actual content of my time there for another post as otherwise this one will go on forever, but suffice to say that it was truly an incredible two days that I will remember for a long time.

I will leave you with a photo of my BritMums Live buddy and me that was taken by Katy Hill, who also told me she liked my dress – check me! I am absolutely buzzing after it all….

Sorry I didn’t focus your pic! Lovely post – can’t believe you have a baby that small – you look AMAZING! x

I’m glad you didn’t focus the pic – now I can tell Hubs that the camera on the phone is faulty and not me as I never manage to focus them! Thanks for (yet another) compliment – I’m on the breastfeeding diet, which is the only one that has ever worked for me, sadly it’s quite limiting as diets go 😉

Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
